WOULD YOU LIKE TO SERVE AS AN ON-SITE EVALUATOR FOR ABHES?

The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) continuously seeks new evaluators to ensure a continued pool of qualified and trained individuals serve on site visit teams.  ABHES is recognized by the United States Secretary of Education to accredit private, postsecondary institutions in the United States offering predominantly allied health education programs and the programmatic accreditation of Medical Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technician, and Surgical Technology programs leading to a certificate, diploma, Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Occupational Science, or Academic Associate degree or Baccalaureate degree, including those offered via distance education. It also holds recognition by nationally recognized agencies for purposes of graduate credentialing and other graduate advancement.

Educators and practitioners including distance education specialists in numerous health care disciplines are in demand and are invited to participate. Individuals possessing the leadership abilities to serve as team leaders and individuals specialized in the following programs, but not limited to:

Dental Assisting (DA)
Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS)
Nursing

Surgical Technology (ST)
Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Cardiovascular Technology (CVT)
Radiologic Technology (RT)
Massage Therapy
Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)
Medical Assisting (MA)
Phlebotomy Technician

Evaluators are called upon to participate on from one to four site visits per year, depending on need and availability. The evaluators undergo a training program, either through attendance at a workshop or from a distance through review of an online training session, a written training manual, and consultation with ABHES staff and mentor.  All expenses are paid for the site visit by the institution and a small honorarium is also provided to the evaluator.

While serving as an evaluator requires time away from work and home, the benefits of participating in on-site evaluation visits are immeasurable both for you and for the institutions.  Not only does the training and participation heighten one’s level of awareness and understanding of accreditation requirements, but also provides the ability to observe from the inside how other institutions and programs operate. Participating on an evaluation team is an invaluable experience.

If you are interested in serving as an on-site evaluator for ABHES, please review the policy statement, “The Importance of Evaluator Training,” which provides information such as minimum qualifications and training requirements to serve as an ABHES evaluator.

Please complete the Evaluator Area of Expertise Checklist and Disclosure and Recusal Concerning Actions Involving Potential Conflicts of Interest forms and return them, along with current curriculum vitae to evaluator@abhes.org.

You can register for upcoming workshops through this link: https://www.abhes.org/workshop_registration

Feel free to provide this information to individuals within and outside of your organization who you believe may be interested and qualified.

Thank you for your consideration and appreciate any assistance you may provide ABHES as we strive to develop our evaluator database, likely the most important aspect of the accreditation process.
