12-21-2010Final Revisions to the Accreditation Manual

    MEMORANDUM     December 21, 2010   Final Revisions to the Accreditation Manual     At its December 2010 meeting, the Commission of the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) approved final revisions to the Accreditation Manual, 16th Edition, as described on the subsequent pages. New language is underlined, deleted language is struck.   In finalizing these revisions, comments received from ABHES’ October 27, 2010, Call for Comment which stated the rationale for the changes, were carefully considered. The ABHES Commission recently approved the following proposed revisions to its Bylaws for comment by the membership.  The proposed revisions are in red, with rationale for the change following in blue. The link contained in the e-mail to this notice provides a survey for your electronic response.  Please review the proposed changes and use the survey link in the email to provide your vote to each proposal and any comment. November 29, 2010 In an effort to acknowledge the continuing accomplishments of ABHES-accredited institutions and programs, we invite you to submit pictures showing the good deeds done by your students on behalf of their communities, using the skills learned at your institution.  We will also accept short videos (maximum 10 seconds). A compilation of this footage will be used as the opening video for the 8th National Conference on Allied Health Education, February 9-12, 2011, in New Orleans. It is my pleasure to welcome Christy Baily-Byers to the ABHES family.  Christy will fill a new position, Distance Education Specialist, created in response to the growing number of programs being offered by distance delivery.  Christy holds a Master of Business Administration from Nova University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication/Public Relations from the University of Delaware. Having begun her professional career in accreditation, working for the Accrediting Commission of the Association of Independent Colleges and Schools (now ACICS), she has primarily worked in the field of education for over 20 years. 10-29-2010Former ABHES Chair- Connie Garland

It is with a heavy heart that I relay the passing of Connie Garland, former ABHES Chair, and friend, on October 26, 2010, at her home in Utah. While on the ABHES Commission she worked tirelessly and successfully enhancing the recognition of ABHES and she was famous for assisting other schools in need of guidance on accreditation matters. In 2005, ABHES presented Connie with the Recognition of Excellence award, for which she came personally to accept despite suffering a recent stroke. 10-29-2010Annual Report - Due November 5, 2010

The 2009-2010 Annual Report must be submitted by November 5, 2010.  Your Annual Report is considered complete when you have successfully submitted the online survey, uploaded all requested documents, and your check for the annual sustaining fee has been received in the ABHES office. If you have not accessed your annual report online yet it is extremly important you do so as soon as possible. If changes are needed on your Profile Verification, only ABHES can make these changes and they need to be done in order for you to proceed with the Annual Report. September 27, 2010 I am pleased to announce two ABHES staff members have been promoted to new positions, effective October 1, 2010.  India Tips, who celebrates her 15th year with ABHES in November, will assume the position Assistant Executive Director. Kelli Blocher, who has served as Accreditation Coordinator since 2007, will assume the position Accreditation Specialist.  Both ladies are to be commended for their exceptional service, work ethic, and dedication to ABHES and accreditation as a whole.
